Guida Alpina di Cortina
Dolomiti - Italy
I was born in a wonderful place, Cortina d’Ampezzo, where I live and work to this day.
Like many of the children born in the Ampezzo valley, when I was little I started to explore this amazing environment on Sunday walks with my parents and later on with my friends.
The surrounding mountains held a great fascination for me and the desire to reach their summits soon made itself felt. It was for this reason, when I was fourteen years old, that I started climbing with my friends. I kept it quiet from my parent at first; they considered it a dangerous activity without expert supervision.
Luckily I managed to survive the dangers of being inexperienced and reckless and, at the age of 19, was invited to join the Gruppo Scoiattoli (the ‘Squirrel Group’; Cortina’s famous group of climbers).
From that moment onwards, I began to expand my climbing portfolio, mainly in the Dolomites, but also in other ranges (climbing various ice and mixed routes in the Mont Blanc and Monte Rosa areas, and making an ascent of Mt. McKinley in Alaska via the West Rib). The allure of the great mountains however was not enough to lure me away from my great passion, rock climbing. Having climbed many of the classic routes in the Dolomites, for a short period I dedicated myself to making solo ascents (including the first solo of the Costantini-Apollonio route on the South Pillar of Tofana di Rozes in 1981). In the early 80s, sport climbing made its appearance in the Dolomites. I started to travel abroad to sport climb and discovered a whole new world of rock climbing. I had found a style of climbing that was perfect for me and my enthusiasm for it is still strong. This enthusiasm has helped me to climb at a fairly high grade (my best effort being a redpoint of an 8b).
In the meantime I attended training courses, which enabled me in time to qualify as an Alpine Guide. In 1984 I joined the “Gruppo Guide Alpine Cortina” (the local guides’ organization), which I am proud to be a part of and where I continue to work.
What has always been a passion, over the years became a job: today I guide anyone who desires it up these mountains, both on difficult and on easy ascents, during summer and winter, trying to transmit to my clients the love I cultivate for this area.
Besides climbing I’m also quite passionate about IT and this is why I’ve tried to build this site: would you have any suggestion for bettering it, please feel free to communicate it to me as I will be more than happy to accept any advice.Tranquille escursioni o impegnative vie ferrate, scuola di roccia, ascensioni d'alto livello, scialpinismo, camminate con le "ciaspe"... Comfortable excursions or demanding “Vie Ferrate”, rock climbing school, high level climbs, ski-alpinism, hikes with snowshoes…You can find all of this, and much more, among the activities proposed by the - Guide Alpine di Cortina - the prestigious group which I am proud to be part of.Arrampicata Foto album - Giornata dedicata all' arrampicata e fotografia. A day dedicated to climbing and photography. After climbing single pitch climbs suited to your climbing skills, a professional photographer will join us during the second half of the day. You will be photographed by a professional that knows how to record the best action shots and who will generate a fantastic photographic CD.
Location: at your choice among the “Five Towers”, or among many other rock cliffs around Cortina. Canon Day - If it is true that perfection does not exist, it is also true that there has been someone who's got very close it in the art of rock climbing: strength and elegance, precision in the movements, determination and a natural talent made of him one of the best worldwide examples of this discipline. I’m talking about Luca Zardini, whose nickname is “Canon”. He is a very strong in-house (he was born in Cortina) athlete and he has been dedicating himself to this discipline for years. Take a look at him while he climbs, listen to his advices and let him advice you on what is the best type of training for you. If you want to improve your technique and if you want to live a full climbing day with a real champion, take advantage of this opportunity and you will not regret it.Location: Indoors climbing walls or outdoors single pitches: the choice upon the two will be made according to the individual skills.Minimum level of preparation: 6a on sight - Notes: because of Luca’s very busy schedule, the above proposal works better during the winter months, when “Canon” has more time at disposal. Any request for any other time of the year will need to be taken into consideration from time to time.Vie ferrate Weekend Cristallo – Ascent of the Vie Ferrate of the Cristallo Mountain. The first of these two days is dedicated to the ascent of the ferrata Marino Bianchi and the second of the ferrata Ivano Dibona (or upon request of the ferrata Renato De Pol). Both these ferrate are on one of the most panoramic picks of Cortina. They are not particularly difficult, but for both of them it is required to be quite fit since they are very long. The meeting point it is on Saturday’s morning in Cortina. Accommodation, dinner and breakfast will be at Rifugio G.Lorenzi (2932 mt). Location: Cristallo Mountain - Difficulty: Medium - Notes: A minimum of two people is required for the above. It would be advisable to book as early as possible in order to guarantee availability of the Rifugio’s rooms. The price includes the Mountain Guide, chair lifts, accommodation and breakfast at Rifugio G.Lorenzi. First steps - Did you always dream of mountaineering emotions, but too many other commitments through your life never allowed you to get into it? Would you now have the time to do it, but you fear it is too late? Well, this is not the case. I have initiated to rock climbing many “over 60’s” and together we have climbed many of the Dolomite’s picks and I did see joy shining into their eyes. You might not be able to climb 7 grade routes, but you will definitely be able to have an amazing experience. Believe me, it is never too late to start.
Location: Cinque Torri (Cortina). Difficulty: Easy - Booking- Easy Hikes– Do you love the mountains and its incredible scenarios? Do you love walking, but you are not as agile and fast as you used to be? Would you just like to take some nice walks, but you don’t have the right companions for it? If you want to, together we will find the type of walk that adapt the most to your needs.
